Tips for visiting Thailand as a family
- Bangkok is roughly a two-and-a-half-hour flight from Singapore, which makes Thailand an easy long-weekend or school-holiday trip.
- Thailand drives on the left, like Singapore and Sri Lanka. To rent a car you'll need your licence plus an International Driving Permit.
- A car makes day trips outside Bangkok — Damnoen Saduak, Kanchanaburi, farms and parks — much easier with kids and luggage than tours or public transport.
- Avoid driving in central Bangkok itself; pick up a rental near the airport or on the edge of the city.
- Safari parks and animal farms are big hits with children — go early in the day before the heat peaks.
